Mountain City, Georgia is located a couple miles north of Clayton, and was known as Passover in the railroad days since it was the highest point in elevation on the line. Although there is not much in the way of shopping in Mountain City, there are some antique storefronts and service oriented businesses within the city, and word around town is Dollar General is opening a location here.

Much of the land outside the city limits is owned by the U.S. Forest Service, so there are not many communities sharing the Mountain City zip code 30562.  Black Rock State Park and Camp Blue Ridge are two of the best known destinations in Mountain City.
