Tallulah Falls, Georgia is the original vacation destination in Rabun County. Long before Lake Burton, Dillard, and Sky Valley, people from Atlanta and all around the country would travel to Tallulah Falls to see the tremendous gorge and the spectacular waterfalls crashing far below its rim. L’Eau d’Or, Tempesta, Hurricane, Oceana, and Bridal Veil are the names given to these beautiful waterfalls located in the last stretch of Tallulah River before joining the Chattooga River in Tugalo Lake.
Tallulah Falls State Park now owns a good bit of the land in and around the city of Tallulah Falls, and it is open to the public for hiking, seasonal whitewater sports, swimming, hunting, and fishing. The historic Tallulah Falls Depot is still in its original location and is now operated as an art gallery, ice cream and snacks store, and is the workshop for wonderful handmade furniture. Hwy 441 now runs through the site where the Cliff House and the locomotive turn-table used to be when this was the end of the Tallulah Falls Railroad line before it was extended to Franklin, NC.
